Karla Kronicles #1 Hello All, Well, for starters, we made our great escape from Tucson on May 7th; weeks earlier than planned, but it was time to hit the road again! Day One took us into Ajo, AZ. This is a mere 127 miles from Tucson, but we were able to stay over two nights and hike in the Organ Pipe National Monument. Our goal was to see the Organ Pipe in bloom, which occurs mid-to-late May. The bloom happens at night and fades by the next morning (9 a.m.). We saw less than 10 blooms as we were still too early; saw bud evidence, so we'll try again next year. But we did see a new plant called a Rock Echeveria, part of the Chicken and Hens family and it was very unique (to us anyway). From Ajo, we spent 4 nights in Palm Springs to relax around the pool and do some grocery shopping inside the California Borders. (You can't take some produce items across the Agriculture Inspection Stations entering California, so it's always a challenge and guessing game.). From there we stayed in Kingsburg CA and visited both King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Great Motorcycle riding roads! We then went to a Thousand Trails RV Preserve 5 miles from the West Entrance of Yosemite. We did some hiking and biking and just enjoying this beautiful forest area. No cell phone service at all, but a good satellite connection for the TV and Internet! Making our way North. We'll be seeing some of you that-away. Good Health and Happiness to you all. For our Tucson group; see you in October. For our Pacific Northwest buddies; hope we can connect while we are up north. We'll be in touch! more later...the wandering Dayhuffs Larry & Karla |
